Devotional Poetry

Muslim-female-silhouette Tasnim Asgharali Jaffer (Moshi,Tanzania)

When the Lord created the Man
And put in him a thinking brain
So that he could ponder upon his affairs
And make the judgments fair

Enclosed in his self, a conscience too, He placed
Which helps him to manage
The affairs that may derail
His soul from the path straight

The combination of these three objects
Body, soul and conscience, all relate
To the spirit, induced into the Man
Which is in the direct control of our Laird

For the maintenance of the body’s health
It requires nutrients grown on the Earth’s surface
As from the dust it was raised
And will be returned to it, when we lay dead

But the conscience too, a need has
Which directly upon the soul affects
And since it is not a visible object
Its need is supplied in a different way

This need is entertained
With the worship of the Laird
Following the commandments upon us placed
With the remembrance of the Laird, the body too satiates
