The Balance

Balance

Tasneem Jaffer (Moshi, Tanzania)

S

eeing an empty see-saw placed
In the playing vicinity for the lads
A thought into my mind sprang
How come it is tilted upon one edge?
Two lads suddenly appeared from nowhere
One of them, the lighter, rushed and sat
Upon the tilted edge
As for the second, he stood at rest
Waiting for his pal to set
Before tilting down the raised bench
And sit upon it, so as to balance
The see-saw in a position of joy and play

So too, humans are provided
With hearts and minds to reflect
Separating the good from evil acts
But without a reasoning mind, and a heart stead
He is inclined towards the bend
Whichever shows him the easier passage
For, the power to strive, he lacks
So too the intellect which differentiates
The good from the evil, the bad
And, in this manner usually ends
Towards that which has evil great
Turning into a loser “here” and “after” as well
