Yes, it has arrived, the day to decide. You and I are on whose side? “Likes of me don’t pledge to the likes of you.” Who am I like? My loyalty lies with who?
Like Hurr ibn Yazid, will I apologize? Take a moment to reflect and recognize, And in return, earn an ultimate paradise; Or, like others, with Abaa Abdillah, only sympathize?
To my Imam, will I make a lofty offering That, in my opinion, will ease his suffering? Or will I be with him, ever enduring, By his side, inseparable and caring?
Abdullah ibn Johfi offered his horse, With that, his support to endorse. No regret whatsoever, no remorse, As he was on an opposite course.
There were those who wished not for the Imam to die, But when you look at their reactions, upon them, fie! On their shoulders they carried the burden of lie, For they made offerings, but were sly.
To Dhahhak al-Mashriqi, Imam gives an invite. Like Zuhayr had for Imam, he had no spite. With the Imam, he was ready to, conditionally fight; In his opinion, he was a worthy knight.
When he would not be of any use, his presence, Imam should allow him worldly deliverance. Not comprehending Wilayah in its essence, He moved away, establishing his absence.
Then there were those seeking neutrality to obtain, Like Harthama, who from Siffeen knew about the Karbala plain. The Ameer had informed him of tragedies to befall Husayn, And how he would be trapped in agony and pain.
Harthama realized that he was on the wrong side. His nafs began to reprimand and ruefully chide. It was apparent that the enemy army had lied. “It is time to move away,” loud and clear, his nafs cried.
Was moving away sufficient for salvation? Or did he still earn a permanent damnation? There is no neutrality, no such station. Side with Husayn; earn emancipation.
When Imam uttered, “The likes of me…” He was offering people a chance to be free. But freedom has a price to pay, a fee. Husayn says, “You need to live like me.”
Fight all odds on the path to the Lord. Hold on tight to the Wilayah cord. Step in wherever you witness oppression or discord. Obtain a character in Husayn’s accord.
Tread the path of Tawheed, a God-centric life to live. Establish justice around; in peace, believe. The mission of Husayn revive and relive. Salvation for myself, let me achieve.
This is the day when I pledge not my felicity, Neither my wealth nor my neutrality. To Husayn, I commit not a partiality; Rather, I pledge my loyalty, my morality.
Hayhaat Minna adh-Dhillah! I chant with pride, As I renew my pledge, my path I once again decide. Brushing aside partiality and neutrality, taking Husayn’s side, Tell him to hold me by my hand, for I have tried.
