Marhum Mohamedtaki Pyarali Esmail
1955-2025
Tribute by Akil Hirji (Past Dar Jamaat MC Member, Chairman Projects & Developments)
Alhamdulillah, I had the privilege of working alongside Marhum Mohamedtaki Esmail under the leadership of Alhaj Anwerbhai Dharamsi from 2004 to 2010, during my time as the Managing Committee Member of the Dar es Salaam Jamaat, heading the Projects & Developments portfolio.
Marhum Mohamedtaki was a sincere, hardworking, and an intellectual ?gure. His unwavering honesty and dedication to upholding Islamic principles, particularly Shariah compliance, were evident throughout his tenure as a Trustee of the Dar es Salaam Jamaat. He stood ?rm in his convictions and was never afraid to make difficult decisions when it came to protecting the interests of the community.
In today’s world, it is rare to ?nd individuals of such integrity, passion, and calibre. He was deeply committed to the welfare and progress of our community, and his legacy continues.
Among the many achievements we shared, the following are a few where his contribution was crucial towards our community:
- Acquisition of the Plot Adjacent to the Imambargha
Marhum was instrumental in the acquisition of the land adjacent to our Imambargha compound. He stood ?rm from the initial stages until it was handed over to the Jamaat. - Extension of the Imambargha and Musafarkhana
Working closely with the late donor Marhum Mustafa Jaffer (Sabodo), Marhum Mohamedtaki played a key role in the extension of these vital facilities for the community. He was also actively involved in the process of successfully acquiring back a piece of land of the Imambargha that was encroached by the neighbours. - Strategic Property Acquisitions
He was actively involved in the successful acquisition of several important properties, including the Kalidas Samji plot, Uhuru Street plot (next to Jenabai Hasham), and two properties next to Ebrahim Haji. - Mkunguni Street Building (Al-Redha Flats) Litigation
Despite the plot being invaded and numerous challenges with the authorities and courts, Marhum was ?rm to ensure the Jamaat retained ownership of this valuable asset. - Rental Collection Responsibilities
Marhum took his role as Trustee seriously – often personally visiting long-standing defaulters, climbing stairs himself to ensure that dues owed to the Jamaat were collected. His hands-on approach re?ected his deep sense of duty towards his responsibility.
His legacy is a reminder of what it means to serve sel?essly with passion and integrity, and maintain a strong moral compass. May Allah (SWT) grant Marhum Mohamedtaki Esmail the highest station in Jannah and continue to bless our community with such devoted individuals.
May Allah SWT repose the departed soul in the abundance of His mercy and rest him amongst the chosen ones – Aameen. We request our readers to remember marhum and all the Marhumeen with Sura-e-Fateha.
