This feature is an obituary dedicated to Marhum Maalim MohamedHussein Kermali, who gave our Khoja Shia Ithnasheri community his best!  

Marhum Maalim, was born and raised in Zanzibar, educated himself by studying under the street lights of Zanzibar. He was famously known as Babu Kermali.

He grew up educating himself and supporting his family as he studied and worked to be able to provide for his household.

Maalim was an inspiration to the community in Dar-es-salaam and Orlando, FL., where he was always humble to every human, senior, adult and young and always available to assist and guide in any way possible.

His legacy includes several books that he wrote and that were published by the World Federation.

Maalim never spoke loudly to anyone, walked hard on earth and did his best to make sure he never hurt any of Allah’s creation for which he would have to be answerable not only in this world but also hereafter.

He left behind his legacy by being down-to-earth to every human he ever met. He was a great, noble character, always showing great demeanour, patience, calmness, respect to all, young and old. He had unparalleled knowledge, always focused, and he always knew what was important!

A rare gentleman, we will miss those long, meaningful talks. When Marhum passed away, he had nothing but a smile and brightness on his face.

Our prayers are with him and his family to have the patience and forbearance, and for all of us to accept this colossal loss. May Allah bless his soul in eternal peace and grant him Jannat!

May Allah SWT repose the departed soul in the abundance of His mercy and rest him amongst the chosen ones – Aameen. We request our readers to remember marhum and all the Marhumeen with Sura-e-Fateha.
