Finding Eternal Grace and Strength in the Midst of Sorrow

The days of beauty are dawning on us,
The sacred nights looming over us,
Every pilgrim ready to go,
To answer the call of
Labaik ya Hussain.

What beauty is this,
The world is in awe,
People of every age and race,
Walk hand in hand chanting
Labaik ya Hussain.

The beauty was created 1400 years ago,
Karbala was only a piece of land,
That got it’s honor from the pure blood,
With each grain of sand also saying
Labaik ya Hussain.

The beauty spread so far and wide,
Like a rose that bloomed,
And encapsulated every heart,
That we were the promised people who will uphold
Labaik ya Hussain.

I did not see anything but beauty,
Said a sister standing firm and strong,
That voice echoed so loud,
That every majlis and matam screams
Labaik ya Hussain.

Theme #29: Reviving the Prophetic Pursuit of Knowledge This theme grounds discussions in the ethos of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who made seeking knowledge (talab al-ilm) a foundational duty. It highlights the shared responsibility: preachers/mullas/maulanas must deliver teachings with depth, research, relevance, and sincerity for real change, while the community must approach knowledge with openness, critical reflection, humility, and action. The goal is real spiritual and communal transformation, not mere ritual.

Measuring Real Change by Mohamedarif Suleman How Preachers Can Evaluate the Effectiveness of Their Teachings When we gather in the majlis, we are entering a sacred space that was always meant to be more than ritual. It is a place of remembrance, yes, but also a place of transformation. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, taught that gatherings of remembrance must also be gatherings of knowledge. The majlis is meant to awaken our hearts, sharpen our minds, and strengthen our resolve. Yet we must ask ourselves: are our majlises truly fulfilling this prophetic mission, or have they become limited to emotion without change?
