In an Instagram reel, a man stands quietly with a tap credit card in his hand, waiting patiently for senior shoppers who probably live on a bare minimum at near poverty levels, waiting for them to fumble for cash after being told their bill at the cash register, and he swoops in casually and pays their bill for that day’s shopping. Gratitude is evident on their faces.

I was recently watching a video of a Gujarati person who had moved to Kerala decades ago and was speaking about the migration of Gujaratis to the state. He vividly spoke about Gujaratis being merchants for centuries, moving to different parts of the world to start businesses. My great-great-grandfather had a similar trajectory, moving from India to Tanzania to start a business and unlock opportunities for his family. I am sure that was the trajectory of the forefathers of many readers of these issues as well, showcasing the weaving of histories and cultures through migration. I always wonder what my great-great-grandfather would have been like, the food he ate, the way he would behave and how our culture morphed and adapted as generations went on.

This publication originally started as print magazine in Nairobi under the auspices of the Haydari Madrasah. Later on, with greater demand for online material and demand to suppress costs as well as reach a wider audience, TC on Friday, became an online "Friday supplement". In the early 2000s, the forum received the support of The World Federation, giving their blessings to the publication as well as helping in its broadcast.

Again, with passage of time, changes are imminent as we now move to a more interactive state - a blog. To this end, I seek the support of all members who can contribute their valuable time and written material to the forum, which is being read all across the world.
