Cultures are a collection of changing modes of human expression that develop differently in different geographical areas and change based on temperature, type of cloth available, language, type of food able to grow and more. Whereas Islam comes with unchangeable rules and a moral compass, and as long as cultural practices do not contradict clear Islamic teachings, they are not only permitted but respected.

Passing the torch, of a fire that keeps burning, not only staying lit, but growing with each generation. The more we learn about the tragedy of Karbala, the more we internalise its teachings,, the more deeply we understand and accept the message of Islam, the more we love Muharram and are increasingly eager for it each year. We must ask ourselves how we can ensure that the message of Muharram continues to resonate deeply with the hearts of our youth?
