I pay tribute to Akhtar Nayani, an exceptional opening batsman and a gifted left-arm spinner.
His prowess on the field, especially his skilful fielding in the slips area, made him a standout player.
Beyond his cricketing talents, Akhtar was a remarkable human being who was respected and admired by all who knew him.
I had the distinct privilege of opening the innings with him, first in the second-division Union B and later in the first-division Union A Team.
His dedication, sportsmanship, and camaraderie were truly inspirational.
Akhtar’s contributions to the game and his exemplary character left a lasting impact on everyone around him.
Akhtar Nayani was also an accomplished co-driver in car rallying. He initially partnered with Marhum Taqi Virani, achieving numerous accolades through their teamwork.
Akhtar’s talent and dedication shone even brighter when he joined forces with the renowned rally driver Hussein Jettex.
Together, they became a formidable duo, winning several competitions.
Their most notable achievement was a major victory in the Millennium Rally in 2000.
Akhtar’s contributions to car rallying, much like his cricketing career, were marked by excellence and determination.
His successes in both sports left a lasting legacy, showcasing his versatility and commitment.
He will be remembered not only for his sports achievements but also for his admirable character
