I still recall that Winter of ’99 when I was in my dorm room at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. A new rendition of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens was on the television with the main character of Ebenezer Scrooge being played by the famous actor Patrick Stewart. I shall not forget that moment, not only because the book is one of my all time favourites but also because of the reason I was watching that movie at the time.

Tribute by The Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Africa

A father, a friend, a community servant – no matter how one knew him, Marhum Mohamed Rafik was a true “Rafik” to young and old alike. Born in Zanzibar, raised in Dar-es-Salaam, and having studied in India, Marhum Mohamed Rafiq received a breadth of exposure in his travels from a young age. His passion for serving the community was ignited when he was appointed as the Administrative Secretary of the Federation of KSI Jamaats of Africa at the young age of 24, under the mentorship of Marhum Ebrahim Husein Sheriff Dewji in 1959. Marhum Mohamed Rafik’s witty nature and natural ability to connect with people from different walks of life enabled him to establish a good rapport with those that he sought to serve.

This publication originally started as print magazine in Nairobi under the auspices of the Haydari Madrasah. Later on, with greater demand for online material and demand to suppress costs as well as reach a wider audience, TC on Friday, became an online "Friday supplement". In the early 2000s, the forum received the support of The World Federation, giving their blessings to the publication as well as helping in its broadcast.

Again, with passage of time, changes are imminent as we now move to a more interactive state - a blog. To this end, I seek the support of all members who can contribute their valuable time and written material to the forum, which is being read all across the world.
