The ancient Chinese philosopher Kongzi, or Confucius, emphasised the importance of language in the governance of society. He believed that “if names be incorrect, language is not following the truth of things. If language is not the truth of things, affairs cannot be carried on to success.” This idea underscores the significance of precision and accuracy in language, particularly in public discourse and governance.
