Self-forgiveness
Y
ou are going to make mistakes, mess up, lose your way, forget things, lose your temper and say things you should not say.
Are we not human? We are going to make errors and mistakes. Our tendency to make mistakes is so surprising or disappointing to people. Why such a big deal?
The saddest mistake we make is a lack of forgiveness, especially for ourselves. We are highly critical of ourselves, frequently disappointed and ruthless in our judgement. We blame ourselves and we are our own enemy.
Life did not come with a fool-proof manual. Most of us are doing the best we can, really. But we are not perfect. The truth is that we are a work in progress. We learn from our mistakes and stumbling.
Obviously, some big mistakes by air traffic controllers or one wrong move by a surgeon can be deadly.A majority of mistakes we make are not deadly. True, even a small mistake can cause inconvenience, conflict, or extra work. But when did life suddenly become convenient or trouble-free?
When we accept mistakes as an unavoidable part of life, we can forgive ourselves, avoiding all the stress.
“To err is human, to forgive divine”
