O
nce again we are at the gate of His Mercy and at His laid out banquet. The Maidah has been laid out, for you and me to partake… What I will pick is in proportion to my hunger and my appetite, my desire and my taste.
I have come empty handed but I know what I want. Just like when I go to a buffet party I know exactly what they serve and I am also aware of their best dishes, I enter this banquet being fully aware of what is being served and I want a taste of which of the things laid out on the table spread.
Once again, I invite you to journey with me in drinking from the cup of As Sajjad (as) and allowing the drink to run through my system, aiding in transforming me into a better person. I pray to Allah (swt) to allow me to complete the Dua Makarimul Akhlaq reflection that was started last year.
“O Allah, make the wishing, the doubt, and the envy which Shaitan throws into my heart
· a remembrance of Your mightiness,
· a reflection upon Your power,
· and a devising against Your enemy!“
Dua Makarimul Akhlaq
Shaitan is locked up in these blessed days, and that makes it easier for me to move quickly to my desired goal. In normal days, Shaitan THROWS at my heart 24/7 targeting at my mind and my heart; the two most sacred places within me. Am I aware of his THROWS and how he manages them?
Am I aware of the strength with which he manages his THROWS? Am I aware of how my mind and heart catch them and work upon them distancing me from my actual goal?
He has laid eggs and hatched them in their bosoms. He creeps and crawls in their laps.
Sermon 7- Nahjul Balagha
These are the days of being mindful…watching over my thoughts and my deeds. Evil thoughts nurture evil deeds. May all the thoughts that cross our minds be counter-acted by remembrance of Allah (swt), for that is the purest of all thoughts and void of all filth.
Make everything he causes to pass over my tongue, –
· the indecent or ugly words,
· the maligning of good repute,
· the false witness,
· the speaking ill of an absent man of faith
· or the reviling of one present,
– Dua Makraimul Akhlaq
As per various quotes from Masumeen (as), the tongue is the most important of all organs. Using the tongue in the wrong way results in giving in to Shaitan. The five sense organs are the windows to the soul, and misusing those results in lowering oneself spiritually. This is the month of nurturing God wariness in oneself. What elements do I allow into my soul through these windows is my personal choice.
In these few lines, Imam Sajjad (as) has explicitly listed out ways by which the tongue is used in an inappropriate manner. It is all a matter of being consciously aware and using the freedom of choice. May I be guided to watch over my thoughts, which sometimes catch the ‘throws’ from Shaitan and let them run on my tongue…causing irreparable damage both to the society and to my soul.
